Frequently asked questions
Q: HOW DOES THE TEAM WORK?
A: The Highschool team is broken down into two parts, The first part is the Highschool Conference team (competitive) which consists of two students a boat and a boat captain that fish in the 3 conference tournaments during the summer to try to make it to state tournament and then nationals. The second part is the Thursday night league (derby night) where students aren't bound by the strict rules of the HS league and can more or less have fun fishing while learning too. For Thursday nights the only boat requirement is a lanyard cutoff on driver, and they can fish as many people in the boat as the boat allows.
Q: What if my child doesn't have a partner?
A: Not to worry, we get a lot of students that don't have a partner. During casting practice in the winter months, they will be able to meet other students that may or may not have a partner and figure things out. We always encourage students to find their own partners. Your coach may be able to help with this. (to get the ball rolling between two students)
Q: We don't have a boat how can my student fish?
A: We have volunteers that can take kids fishing that your coach can put you in touch with that might be able to help you.
Q: What are the boat requirements?
A: For the HS competitive league your boat must be 16ft. minimum, have a working live well (or large cooler with aeration) and a engine cutoff lanyard attached to the boat captain. no boat size or aeration requirements for Thursday nights just cutoff lanyard on driver.
Q: I registered and paid for the team but where is my teamsnap invite?
A: It may not have been sent yet it may be in your spam folder it may have gone to the students email (usually the case) if you want to be added to the team snap ask coach Doug and he will send you an invite (recommended..students don't always get info to parents)
Q: Where does the registration money go?
A: The registration money goes to many things the team has fixed yearly costs ex. website, TeamSnap and fish donkey app. to name most of them. Then there are the league fees which are $40 to mnjrbass $10 to Bassmaster for the permits and insurance for our events then there are the team costs such as jerseys lures line etc.
Q: How do i get a refund?
A: Please make sure your student is serious about being on the fishing team. once you register and pay to be on the team that money is being distributed and spent on this seasons bills and once they are covered the balance is used to buy lures and prizes for the students like fishing rods reels etc. Depending on the amount of sponsorship the kids go out and get for the team. So there are no refunds. Please don't ask as it would have to come out of the coaches personal bank account, not the teams.
Q: What time do Thursday night derbies start?
A: The derbies start around 4PM usually, but whenever you get to the lake after 4pm or tournament start time you can start logging in your fish in the fish donkey app.
Q: Does my child get anything for winning?
A: That all depends on how much sponsorship money is brought in. But every year there has been prizes given out each year. just some years have been better than others.
